A POPULAR village event showcasing the best of local talent has once again made a welcome return.

The Denstone Factor, held at the JCB Lakeside Club in Rocester, saw 16 acts take to the stage, showing a wide range of different talents.

The evening raised £600 for Rakemark Respite Holiday Club, a holiday club for children in and around Uttoxeter with special needs and disabilities.

The winner of the event was six-year-old Morgan McGarry with her dance routine set to I just can’t wait to be king from the Disney classic The Lion King.

She was given a trophy to keep and the Denstone Factor shield which the youngster will hold for a year and her name will be added.

Second place was awarded to choir Two Direction formed by pupils from All Saints First School, in Denstone, and Ryecroft Middle School, in Rocester.

Third place went to pianist Sheena Coote from Denstone with a piano loaned by Jeff Pearson.

Performers this year included singers, from age seven to 72, a violin group, juggler Harley Bussey, two pianists, a comedian, four piece rock band Broken Strings and monologuist Kevin Bussey.

Liz Ratcliffe, one of the organisers, said: “This was our seventh year and it just gets better and better.

“We – the organisers – are delighted to report that we raised £600 for the very important local charity Rakemark Respite.

“This show could not happen without the technical genius of Peter Smith, ably assisted this year by Alex Tweedie and James Pemberton.”

A high quality, professionally produced DVD of the show is available to purchase through Denstone Post Office by phoning 01889 591339, costing £10 each and a donation from each sale will go to Rakemark Respite, thanks to Mark at Platinum Video.
