A UTTOXETER couple are set to take on the ultimate physical challenge – taking in all in World War One battle fields along the way.
Mike and Jo Mountney, of Heathfield Road, will be taking part in the 350 mile Big Battlefield Bike Ride from June 1 to 8 2014, to raise vital funds for Help for Heroes.
The ride will be going from Brussels to Paris before heading back to London.
Mr Mountney, 44, and his wife have supported the charity since it first started and getting a place on the ride involved entering a ballot as it is so popular.
The couple said they are delighted they got a place.
Mrs Mountney, 37, said: “We feel really honoured to be taking part in the bike ride, particularly as it is the centenary year of World War One.
“The route will follow much of the Western front and we will be stopping at various battlefields and memorials along the way.”
To raise extra funds the duo will be holding a Burns night theme charity dinner and auction at the Alton Towers Hotel on Friday, January 24 which will include a three-course dinner and dancing.
Mrs Mountney added: “We want to raise as much as we can for such a good cause and the dinner and auction will be our first step towards it. If anyone would like further details about the dinner, or would like to support us by donating a prize for the auction we would very much appreciate it.”
Tickets for the dinner cost £25 per person with tables of 10 on offer and are available from Mrs Mountney by e-mailing Joanna.firstname.lastname@example.org
Anyone wanting further information or to donate a prize are also urged to get in touch.
Help for Heroes was founded in 2007 to help the wounded servicemen and women.
