A MAJOR development aimed at bringing a whole new shopping experience into Uttoxeter has delayed its opening.
The Carters Square development, to be built on the former cattle market site, was due to be fully opened by the end of this year with Asda, Home Bargains and the Northgate Medical Practice already signed up.
However, this has now been delayed until spring 2014, developer Lingfields has revealed.
Reaching statutory agreements and other legal aspects have taken longer than first hoped and this is understood to be the reason behind the delay.
Jonathon Hart, chief executive of Lingfields, said: “We haven’t been working towards the December 2013 date for a while now.
“That was a first estimate of when it would be completed.
“There is not any reason for the delay. We are working towards a spring 2014 opening.”
Asda has also revealed its store will open in 2014 and will create 200 jobs in the town.
The development is expected to create 500 new jobs altogether.
