THE imminent refurbishment of Uttoxeter Town Hall and the new direction of the town council will see the restart of the popular tea dances at the venue next year.
The Advertiser reported earlier this month that the town council were to ask well-known organist and dance organiser Carol Bradbury to return the tea dances to the town hall.
This followed a five-year absence after Miss Bradbury was forced to find alternative premises due to the planned work on the town hall as part of the Carter Square development.
Now Miss Bradbury has confirmed she will be cha cha cha-ing her way back to the historic venue in 2012 following a successful meeting with the council last week.
The tea dances moved from the town hall in 2006 before restarting at the JCB Lakeside Club in Rocester.
Miss Bradbury told the Advertiser the JCB Club had been a great host and wanted to make it clear she will continue dances at both venues from next month.
She said: “I am pleased to be back at the town hall. I believe the new council are really genuine about getting the town hall back for the people of Uttoxeter.
“And I believe the tea dances were the only function that was making a profit so I still never really knew why it finished.
“But we are back with I hope lots of followers, old friends and new. But I want to make it clear that the dances at the JCB club are still carrying on.
“I don’t want to upset all my followers who didn’t give up on me and to say a big thank you to JCB for having us and we will keep having dances there as well twice a month “I want to say a special thank you to Mick Smith who always looks after us at JCB.” The first dances of the year at the JCB Lakeside Club are on January 5 and January 19 between 2 and 4pm. Admission is £2.50 and dancers are urged to bring refreshments.
