KATE is just one Uttoxeter resident who has benefited from the work club after she found herself unemployed due to health issues after 18 years in work, but felt there was no help for adults in her position,
She said: “After being unemployed for over a year I found I had lost all my confidence - I rarely left the house and the thought of having to speak to people was a frightening prospect.
“I had been searching online for jobs but as soon as I saw the application forms I gave up - they were so much more complicated than when I last had to fill one in.
“I was struggling to put a good CV together and felt totally lost, when my case worker at Jobcentre Plus told me about the CVS work club in Uttoxeter, I was unsure what to expect but went along and found I enjoyed meeting new people. I continued to attend every week, picked up lots of useful information and enjoyed talking to other people in a similar position to my own - which gave me some confidence back.”
From attending the club, Kate secured a voluntary role with Victim Support and ultimately gained a paid position as a housing support officer with the YMCA.
She said: “Having attended the work club I was in a position to put together a good application form and was selected to attend for an interview. This would have been a terrifying prospect had it not been for the advice I had been given at work club. I am so glad I went to work club, where I gained such great information and advice.”
