ANGRY Draycott in the Clay residents have been kept waiting for months for a faulty man hole cover to be repaired as contractors repairs lasted just a month before being broken again.
Susan Walker, of New Road, told the Post and Times that she and her husband are being kept awake into the early hours by cars and trucks going over a faulty man hole cover, which was repaired six months ago by a contractor for Severn Trent Water.
Ms Walker said: “There is a sewerage man hole cover outside our house and the noise the traffic makes when it goes over it is horrendous.
“We first reported it in October of last year.
"They came out to do a repair but it never lasted a month.
“It was repaired again in May or June of this year.
“I now have four reference numbers with Severn Trent as I’ve called them so many times.
“I’ve phoned on September 9th and 25th, October 15th and 24th.
“My main concern is that my husband has to get up for work at 5am in the morning and we are being kept awake until late by this manhole cover.
“At 12.30am in the morning we were awake this morning as a convoy of trucks came through.
“We’ve had to move to the back bedroom of the house as it’s so noisy.
“It’s been going on for 18 months now - as it was repaired twice and was broken again soon after the repairs.
"It has become a nightmare.
“Six years ago when we first moved to the property there was an issue with the cover, and Severn Trent got a contractor to fix it.
“It then lasted three to four years, and we can understand it being worn out by the end of that time if it’s been mended properly, but when it was recently repaired in June it didn’t last a month.
“I don’t know what materials they were using but it was evident from the start that it wasn’t going to last.”
A spokesman for Severn Trent Water said: "We would like to apologise to the customer affected by this.
"We now have a team who will be going out today to repair the cover."
