BURGLARS bagged high-value electrical goods from a Uttoxeter home before fleeing in the owner’s Range Rover.

They escaped with the haul, estimated by police to be worth up to £40,000, after targeting a property in Stafford Road.

Inspector Tyrone Kerr, of East Staffordshire Local Policing Team, said this particular burglary was a rather ‘unusual’ crime.

He said: “We normally have a burglary at a property in which stuff is taken out of it, or a property which is broken into to steal keys for a car.

“To combine the two is quite unusual.”

He said the property was raided between 7.10am and 6.15pm on Thursday.

Insp Kerr said the burglars approached the home - which was unoccupied and locked at the time - from the rear.

“They forced the ground floor kitchen transom window to enter the property and have stolen quite a lot of electrical equipment,” he told the Advertiser.

The raiders’ haul included a 46in Samsung three-dimensional television, two women’s watches and an Apple iPad.

Insp Kerr said the burglars carried the goods to a 2009-registered Range Rover parked outside before fleeing with the lot.

He indicated the offenders managed to pull off the attack unseen.

However, Insp Kerr said officers from CID were hunting them.

The officers, he said, had appealed for anyone who saw people acting suspiciously near the home, or who had seen the stolen vehicle following the raid, to contact them at Staffordshire Police on 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555111.

The Burton-based officer indicated the property’s owners had done everything in their power to prevent the burglary.

However, he was at pains to point out that the raid served as a reminder to homeowners to protect their possessions.

“They should ensure that property is secure and that, wherever possible, alarms are set.”

Figures on police.uk show burglaries represent less than five per cent of crimes in Uttoxeter.

In December, within a radius of one mile from the town, three burglaries were committed out of a total of 67 crimes.
