MOMENTUM can take Uttoxeter Town all the way to the Division One title says Martin Gadsby.

Town are four points clear in the Staffordshire Senior League second tier following a perfect November. The Oldfields outfit remain unbeaten in the league - and have taken maximum points from their last five - and Gadsby is keen to extend their winning run.

The Uttoxeter Town captain said: "The key to us being successful is to maintain our momentum. We are only one third of the way through the league season so there are plenty of points to play for. If at any point we think we've done enough then we will get turned over.

"Obviously November has been a good month for us. We have won three league games and got to the semi-finals of a cup and have played arguably four of the best sides in the league. But there's no point getting carried away because a defeat or two and we've lost the breathing space which we have at the moment. We need to keep winning, keep picking up points and hopefully make that gap bigger."

The Town skipper admits that taking all three points in Saturday's seven-goal thriller was "probably more than we deserved". But Gadsby believes that recovering from a 2-0 deficit demonstrates Town's strength of character.

He added: "MMU played us off the park for a good 40 minutes and thoroughly deserved their lead. But we stuck at it and managed to get back in the game. We showed a great spirit again to turn it round but it would have been nice to start better and not give ourselves such a mountain to climb."

The Town skipper also hailed the impact of new addition Matt Redshaw. Gadsby said: "Matty had a cracking debut. He was sharp, quick and direct and that's what we needed and I think him and Smithy (Tommy Smith) will be a test for any defence."

A trip to face a Bradwell side who without a win in four games is the next test for Town. Gadsby is confident of recording an 11th league win from 12 games - but says the Oldfields outfit will not take the opposition lightly. The Town skipper said: "With being top of the league we have put ourselves there to be shot at.

"Every team will want to be the ones to beat us so we need to stand up to that, be strong and hopefully we will have enough to get another three points. We're confident of getting a win and putting another three points on the board."
