A 10-KILOMETRE sponsored run is to raise much-needed funds for a village school.

The Marchington 10k and Fun Run takes place on Sunday alongside the annual Marchington Summer Fete, both of which will be raising funds for St Peter’s School.

The first ever Marchington 10k held last year was a great success, raising nearly £1000 for the school and organisers are keen to make this year’s event as big.

With over 100 runners booked to date, plus many village stalls, the event promises to be an action-packed day.

A craft fair, games, competitions, a licensed bar and a dog show will entertain villagers, runners, volunteers and their families throughout the day.

A spokesman for the run said: “Last year’s inaugural event was a huge success, attracting approximately 100 runners and raising almost £1000 for our school.

“This money has been used to buy sports equipment including football goals, netball posts and coloured sashes to be used at Sports Day and for other team events.

“Just like last year we will hold a 10k run for over 16s, a fun run of approximately two kilometres for all ages and a Little Legs run for younger children.

“Everyone who completes their event will be awarded a medal and goody bag and there will be trophies and prizes for the winners in all categories.”

Those wishing to do so can sign up on the day of the event.

At 9am, registration for both distances opens at St Peter’s School. From 9.30am until 1.30pm, hot food will be served. At 9.30am a warm up is to be held on the school playing field and at 9.45am runners are expected to assemble for the 10k.

The 10k run will start at 10am from Marchington Village Shop and the Fun Run will start at 10.10am.

The Little Legs Run will start on the school field at 11am. The craft fair will open from 10am until 2pm at the village hall and from 11am until 2pm the village fete will be open.

Organisers would like to give special thanks to Marchington Village and surrounding areas, the children and parents of St Peter’s First School, Mrs Livesey and the School team and the committees behind the run.

Further information is available by contacting the group by email on Marchington10k@ymail.com

Entry to the 10k run costs £15 and entry to the fun run is £5.
