THE town has declined steadily and remorselessly over the last decade and continues to do so.
If I remember correctly, promises were made to relocate the cattle market to land next to the water treatment works. That land was fenced but remains derelict.
The council over the past 10 years have presided over the greatest opportunity this town has had to modernise and create a vibrant hub on the land at the back of the town hall.
What has happened is a disgrace with allegations of conflicts of interests, petty party politics, kowtowing to Burton, not to mention resignations and reports of underhand tactics to stifle open criticism at council meetings.
Why is it that the Town Meadows retail park continues to grow yet nothing is happening on the town hall site? The problem is, we, the people of this town, keep voting the same people in who have presided over this farce.
You get the Government — or in this case, council — you deserve.
