UTTOXETER residents still have plenty of chances to enjoy a lent lunch this year after the first event proved a big success.

The annual lent lunches organised by Uttoxeter Churches Together always attract strong attendances and this year has started in the same vein.

The first event was held last week at the United Reformed Church in Carter Street.

As well as bringing people of all faiths together to celebrate the festival of lent, the lunches also help raise money for a good cause each year.

Organiser Hazel Edginton from Uttoxeter Churches Together told the Advertiser it was a case of ‘so far so good’ this year.

She said: “It is going very well indeed. So many people supported us and I hope it is like that for the rest of the lunches.

“We will be going for five more weeks, every Friday up to the week before Easter.

“All donations this year go to the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice so it is a case of the more people the better.”

The lent lunches are being held on Friday’s between 11.30am and 1.30pm and offer soup, bread, cheese and tea and coffee and are £2 to attend.
