Horse takes late night dip in pool

‘THERE is horse in our swimming pool’ were the words uttered to firefighters as startled homeowners discovered an animal enjoying a few lengths in the middle of the night.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service revealed details of the bizarre incident which unfolded in Thornley Lane, Newborough, on Thursday night.

The shocked householders made the frantic phone call after making the discovery at roundabout 10pm.

As they looked out their back window, they couldn’t believe their eyes when a horse jumped into their swimming pool and starting to enjoy a late night dip.

Alongside firefighters from Burton and Abbots Bromley, a crew specially trained in animal rescue was dispatched from Cannock.

Firefighter conducted a quick evaluation of the emergency before undertaking a detailed and painstaking plan to remove the horse from the water.

A spokesman for the fire service told the Mail: “We received a call from the Abbots Bromley area late on Thursday night concerning an animal.

“The caller revealed that a horse, that was not theirs, had found its way into their swimming pool and was now swimming around as it was stuck.

“Fire crews from Burton, Abbots Bromley and the specialist animal rescue unit from Cannock were dispatched in an effort to investigate.

“The crews worked together and finally were able to remove the animal from the pool.

“After the horse was successfully rescued, it was checked over by a vet before being taken away.

“All fire staff involved left the scene at 12.30am on Friday morning.”

The condition of the horse is not currently known.
