FORTY new jobs have been created in town as a value retailer has opened in a new town centre development.
Newly appointed deputy mayor Councillor Andrew Riley cut the tape at the new Carters Square Home Bargains store at 8.30am today.
The £500,000 investment is creating 40 full and part time jobs in Uttoxeter.
This is the first store to open in Uttoxeter, joining 330 outlets across the UK.
Home Bargains opens approximately 50 stores a year across the UK, bucking current trends in the industry.
Joe Morris, operations director at Home Bargains, said: “We’re excited to be opening our first store in Uttoxeter, and look forward to welcoming new customers through our doors.”
The 15,000 square foot store will give Uttoxeter shoppers the chance to get their hands on bargains, including a range of homewares.
Home Bargains also stocks a range of branded goods, including health and beauty, cooking utensils, sweets, snacks and drinks.
Mr Morris added: “Carters Square is a great location for us – we’re thrilled to be in a position to offer locals top branded goods, at exceptionally low prices.

The new store joins a number of other outlets in the new Carters Square development including a 31,000 square foot Asda.
Asda’s Uttoxeter store deputy manager, Donna Hill, said she had received a ‘positive reaction’ from shoppers.
She said: “I speak to customers on a daily basis and they tell me they like the convenience of the store and the excellent pedestrian links means its handy to call in, being based on edge of the town centre.
“We’ve welcomed thousands of customers through the doors already and we look forward to welcoming more.
“Our successful launch day has set a precedent in terms of our work with members of our local community.
“It has helped to create a positive first few weeks for our store colleagues.”
Also opened or opening soon at Carter’s Sqaure are Costa Coffee, Holland & Barrett, Phones 4u, Wilkinson’s, Barnardo’s and a health centre and doctor’s surgery.
There is still one vacant unit at the new shopping centre, which Uttoxeter residents have said they want to be used for a new clothing shop.
