‘IT feels really great, I cannot believe it’ said Uttoxeter actress Anna Passey after she took home the award for Best Soap Villain.
The Hollyoaks star, better known as sinister Sienna Blake in the Channel Four soap, took home the accolade at the British Soap Awards at the weekend - beating off stiff competition from her colleagues Jesse Birdsall and Greg Wood.
The former Thomas Alleyne’s High School pupil told the Post and Times she did not have a speech prepared as she made her way to the stage to collect her award.
She said: “It feels great, it is amazing. I genuinely did not have a speech prepared as I thought the guy from Emmerdale (Dominic Power) had it.
“It really was a surprise but I was really chuffed. However, I could not get up the stairs to the stage with my dress. I just could not do it as the dress was not made for stairs.
“Thankfully, Jeremy Sheffield, who plays my father in Hollyoaks, came and escorted me up safely.
“Kindly they edited that out of the ceremony when it was shown on TV.”
Miss Passey said there was no hard feelings with her co-stars also up for the villain award once the winner was revealed.
She said: “They were both thrilled to bits. When you get up on the stage all you can see if your cast mates and they were all cheering and they were all lovely.
“Both Greg and Jesse were super lovely to me.”
It was a big night for Hollyoaks as the stars also took home the biggest award of the night - Best Soap.
The 29-year-old said: “Everyone could genuinely not believe it. The award normally goes back and forth between Coronation Street and Eastenders so it was a huge achievement.
“There has been such a great atmosphere at work.
“The after show party was really fun as everyone is there from all the soaps and you get to catch up with friends and people in the same industry.
“People are really happy for you. Julie, who played Hayley in Coronation Street, came over to me and she was genuinely made up for me. Everyone is very supportive and kind.
“There was nobody there that I had not met before. I had hoped to speak to Ian McKellen but he hot-footed it out after the show.”
Miss Passey is now hoping to take home another trophy at the TV Choice Awards where she is nominated for Best Soap Actress and Best Soap Storyline for the love triangle between Darren, Nancy and Sienna.
The actress added: “I would like to say a big thank you for everyone who has voted for me.
“I really has been a dream come true to get three nominees for Hollyoaks in one category. We had some really strong people in the category.
“I would ask if people did want to vote for me I would love to have a stab at it. I will be pestering my friends and family to get voting please. It is super to be nominated.”
Although Miss Passey does not known what is coming up next for Sienna as she continues to hunt for her daughter, she said the writers have told her she has some more exciting storylines to come which she is looking forward to being part of.
