A FORMER coach house could be transformed into holiday homes if given the go-ahead by planning chiefs.
Mr A Duffy has applied to East Staffordshire Borough Council’s planning committee to convert the coach house at Wood Leighton House, based in Wood Leighton Road, Uttoxeter, which will include the construction of a two-storey detached building with a two bay garage on the ground floor.
The application is proposing to change the coach house and groom quarters from a now underutilised stable building into three holiday units with a fourth above the proposed garage.
The site of the units will see Uttoxeter Racecourse to the north east and the town centre to the north.
The report states: “The coach house and grooms quarters have been underused since the sale in June 2013 and the proposed scheme would bring the buildings back into usable assets.”
The new holiday units will be on a site of an existing family home with gardens and outbuildings. It will be ‘well contained’ within the boundaries due to hedges, wooden panels, post and rail fencing and a private driveway.
The report adds: “The principle that has been adopted in preparing the application is that the proposed development of the coach house and grooms quarters should be in keeping with and enhance that of the original design.
“The character of the proposal has been drawn from both the materials palette and the character of the original buildings.
“The proposed alterations to the coach house and groom quarters will maintain the use of the brickwork and other components of the building, supplemented where necessary by reclaimed and replacement timber and associated finishings to reflect the design and appearance as closely as possible.”
