GEIGERRIG is a relative newcomer to the sports hydration market, going up against long-standing manufacturers such as Camelbak and Deuter to produce high quality hydration packs.
But Geigerrig has an ace up its sleeve in the form of a unique pressurisation system, which is a first in the industry and allows the user to spray the water out of the pack rather than have to suck, meaning the pack can also be used to wash your face and hands.
The 1200 model reviewed here features 19 litres of storage and a three litre ‘hydration Engine’ which others would call a bladder, all wrapped up in top quality 1680 Ballistic Rip Stop Nylon, ergonomic shoulder straps and plenty of padded back ventilation.
Other features include a dedicated iPod pocket on the top of the bag, internal storage organisation compartments, heavy duty nylon handles and external bungee cords for added storage.
In use, the Geigerrig fits very comfortably and feels strangely smaller on your back than it actually is, with the main compartment is also capable of holding good size bulky items such as jackets or fleece tops.
Operating the pressurised system is very simple, just pump the rubber bulb on the left shoulder strap to bring the ‘hydration engine’ up to pressure then open the bite valve on the drinking tube to let the water spray out. The drinking tube also features a twist lock to prevent unwanted spillage.
Filling the ‘hydration engine’ is a doddle as the whole top opens up, this makes the pack far easier to clean too.
Overall, I found the 1200 to be an excellent pack for days out on the mountain bike or running out on the trail, with more than enough room for bike spares and clothing layers — especially useful at this changeable time of year.
