After having a couple of fairly successful dates with a guy, he invited me over to his house to cook a meal for me. I cautiously accepted.
On the day, I completely forgot that he was cooking and ate before I left. After trying for an hour to get my hair and make up right (which didn't happen) I should have guessed that things were not going to go well. After arriving half an hour late, he asked me to help him cook. I ended up cooking the entire meal, whilst he sat there on his phone. As I had already eaten, I was feeling particularly full and didn't want much. He presumed this was either because I was nervous or had an eating disorder. The latter, he actually sat me down and asked. I then had to admit that I had eaten already, which he took offence to! At this point, the atmosphere had started to turn quite awkward, so I was very grateful when his cat came in.
With his cat following, we went to his front room to watch TV. This turned into me watching him play with his friends on his Xbox online. Seeing a window for escape, I popped to the loo with my phone, to send a text to my friend to call me with an excuse to get me out of there. His cat followed. Sadly, my friend clearly didn't pick up on the desperation in my text and said she'd call me later! I think his cat sensed my deception and decided to attack me. Knowing I was no match for the cat, I legged it.
Unfortunately, despite my years of dance lessons, I'm a clutz. I fell down the stairs and cut my hand open. I still have the scar years later!
This sadly, wasn't the end of my ordeal. After he finally looked up from his Xbox and got some ice and a bandage for my hand, I had started to feel strange. I'm allergic to cats, especially if they have scratched me. My eyes started to water and puff up, turning redder than my face. My lips started to swell, giving me a rather unattractive 'trout pout'.
My date looked on in horror as I started to wheeze, begging him to find me an anti-histamine tablet. His cat sat there looking at me smugly. Despite looking like a puffer fish in drag, the allergic reaction to the kitty was a blessing in disguise and I had an excuse to leave. Needless to say, I never saw the guy again!
Your dating dilemmas:
I have recently started dating a bisexual man who has been trying to pursue me for ages. Things were going really well and he seemed really keen, but a couple of weeks ago I heard that his ex-boyfriend has been getting jealous and wants him back. Normally I could let this go, but now my boyfriend has gone quiet and is giving me less attention, with the ex looking more smug every time I see him. Should I be worried?
I’m sorry to hear that things aren’t going too well, Cathy. I would like to tell you to give him the benefit of the doubt, but as it’s a man we’re dealing with here, I can’t. Ex’s are sneaky and often feel the need to become involved in heir ex-partners new relationship. Asking your boyfriend out-right wont get you the answers you’re looking for. Us women know how ‘Republican’ men are with the truth! To get the answers you are looking for, you need to be proactive. I recommend the S.T.A.L.K method:
S- Stake-out. Follow your man when he says hes going to the gym/pub. Then you’ll be able to see if he is meeting up with his ex.
T- Texts. Go through his texts on his phone at every opportunity you can get. A lot of information can be gleamed from his mobile.
A- Awkward. Act as awkwardly around him as much as you can. This way he will know that something is up and that you may be on to his deception.
L- Listen. Listen to his calls! You may overhear him talking to his ex
K- Kiss. If he kisses differently, then he is definitely sneaking around with his ex!
On the other hand, his ex may just generally have a smug looking face, which just irritates you. Your boyfriend could just be stressed about work and is confiding in his ex, who knows him very well…though I highly doubt this to be the case. Stick to S.T.A.L.K and you’ll find out the truth.
