Summer Make-Up Trends

Summer is here and we’re all looking for new summery makeup looks to try out. The problem is, nobody wants to ‘over do it’.

Too much bronzer and you’ll look like you’ve being turned into a giant orange and too much indigo eye shadow will make you look like you’ve been in a gang fight. SARAH PEACOCK looks at the latest makeup trends.

Blue Smoky EyesNavy Smoky Eye

The navy smoky eye is perfect for those late night summer parties. It will widen and enlarge your eyes and the navy makes a change from the traditional black. Be careful though, make it too smoky and you’ll like your eyeshadows run down your face by accident- not a good look. A brilliant kit is Dior’s ‘Blue Tie Eye Palette’. It is a bit more expensive but it comes with 4 eyeshades, a nude lipgloss, too brushes and a mirror. Everything is of a very high quality so you defiantly won’t have the problem of your eyeshadow cracking half way through the night. The nude lipgloss can also be used for this summers neon and nude trend- 2 in one! Available from

Neon and Nude

With this trend comes a real danger. You could end up looking like a futuristic being holidaying on Earth however, you could look really nice it’s all about balance. Try going for a bold, neon eye with a soft nude lip or the other way around depending on your mood. Try Bobbi Brown’s ‘neon lip colours’ for the perfect summer lip. The set comes with three Lip Colors: Atomic Orange (orange), Neon Pink (pink) and Uber Beige (beige). Available at

Metallic Eyeshadows

Be careful with this one or you’ll look like a robot. Apply the eyeshadow only along the crease for a futuristic look without looking too crazy. A good one to try is the Collection 2000’s ‘Metallic Cream Eyeshadow’. Its cream texture makes application a breeze and at only £2.99 it won’t break the bank either, available at

Statement Lips

Bright bold lips can look lovely in the summer but make sure you have applied it carefully, there’s nothing worse than lipstick on your teeth! Also, make sure it is just on your lips and not all round your face otherwise you’ll look like a toddler who’s just eaten spaghetti hoops for the first time. A nice bold red lipstick is No7’s ‘Moisture Drench Lipstick’ it’s perfect for garden parties and summer festivals. It also moisturises your lips so it’s good for the winter too- practically an investment! Available from

Flushed Cheeks

There’s nothing wrong with a bit of blusher now and then and summer is the perfect opportunity to have extra rosy cheeks. However, too much blusher in one and you’ll look like a toy toll! Blend the blusher up your cheek bones to create a natural, healthy colour. A fine dusting of bronzer over the top can help extra pigmented blushes look a little more natural. A good summer blush is Soap and Glory’s ‘Love at First Blush Multi Shade Blushing Powder’. The product comes with several shimmery shades and it smells of summer! Available from
