We caught up with Peter just before he visited Stoke-on-Trent to launch two new fragrances. His twitter profile reads: singer, songwriter, TV presenter, reality TV star, New York Coffee Club owner, Go Wild Deals co-owner, loving dad and proud pug owner. But what Peter Andre doesn’t tell you is that he is an all round genuinely nice guy.
“I have a real affinity with Stoke on Trent,” says Peter Andre, “and love visiting. My manager Claire, and driver Carl, are both from Stoke.” Peter is speaking to me from the comfort of his manager’s office in Sussex having not long returned from a holiday visiting his parents in Cyprus.
“Was I late for this interview?” he asks. “I’m sorry I still have jet leg.” Peter isn’t, in fact, late for the interview, but he does have a busy couple of weeks ahead as he is about to embark on a nationwide tour to launch a delightful duo of new fragrances — Forever and Forever Young.
His meet and greet began in London’s Oxford Street, followed the next day by a trip to Watford. Day three saw him visit first Wales and then Stoke — where he was met by hundreds of screaming fans singing and chanting his name.
As the days progressed he was met by thousands of excited fans in Leeds, York, Derby, Northampton, Portsmouth and finally Camberley, in Surrey.
“I was always going to do one fragrance,” says Peter, who celebrated his 40th birthday in February, “which developed into two. They have been in the making for 18 months. Forever Young is a mix of jasmine and vanilla whist Forever has orange, rose and honey.” So are they aimed at mother and daughter? Do they complement one another? “Yes, I suppose they could be aimed at mothers and daughters,” agrees Peter. “Do they complement each other? Well they don’t really talk but I suppose if they did one would say to the other ‘You’re lovely’,” jokes Peter showing the humorous side we see on his reality TV programme Peter Andre: My Life.
The Australian popstar, who was actually born in Britain, first shot to fame with the release of his first single Mysterious Girl, but he had been writing and performing songs long before then.
After a period of time out of the limelight he made a welcome comeback on I’m a Celebrity Get me Out of Here where he met Katie Price. The two later married and had two children — Junior and Princess.
Now divorced, Peter and his stunning girlfriend — medical student Emily MacDonagh — are expecting their first child together next year.
The launch of Peter’s two new fragrances come at a busy time for the astute businessman. He has already seen success with his clothing collection and his coffee shops — New York Coffee Club — in East Grinstead and Brighton are also doing particularly well.
“I’ve got plans to open two coffee shops in London and further north,” says Peter, who released his latest album Angels and Demons — his ninth album to date — this time last year. The album was followed by a successful UK tour.
“I love touring, love putting on a show,” says Peter. “To perform live is amazing. When I did the O2 Arena, the audience ranged from three to 93, which is great.
“People come to see me because they have seen me on TV (Peter Andre: My Life), they feel like they know me.” Peter announced recently that My Life is to air for the last time with his next series, but has recently launched his own social media TV Channel giving fans access to his every move as they can view messages, videos and news as well as interact with him through their own messages and video messages.
“It’s the way of the future,” says Peter. “People use facebook, twitter and YouTube all the time, but this is one channel with everything — there’s live streaming, it’s interactive.
“It’s my channel and it gives fans access to me as it’s all aspects of my life, but it’s not as personal as the reality show.” So, apart from the music, the tours, the TV channel and app, the clothing range, coffee shops and perfumes, as well as a recent collaboration with singer/songwriter Shaggy, and plans to launch a hair care range with his Vidal Sassoon trained brother Michael, what else is on the horizon for Mr Peter Andre? “I recently filmed for 60 minute makeover,” says Peter who swapped his microphone for a paintbrush to film the show in Essex. The show is due to go out in October.
“There’s a lot going on for me, you know? Everything’s good!” The Peter Andre channel is available at thepeterandrechannel.com and free from the app store at iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
Peter delighted fans who queued for hours for a chance to meet him during his visit to Stoke-on-Trent.
The Mysterious Girl singer was at Hanley's intu Potteries Shopping Centre for the launch of his two new fragrances for women – Forever and Forever Young.
Some fans lined up outside River Island from midday to wait for the star, whose scents will be exclusive to The Perfume Shop.
The 40-year-old was met with screams and the flashes from hundreds of cameras before the crowd burst into a spontaneous rendition of his famous chart hit Mysterious Girl.
Peter, who was accompanied by girlfriend Emily MacDonagh, brother Michael, Stoke-on-Trent born manager Claire Powell and driver Carl Machin – who also hails from the city – spent almost an hour meeting and greeting fans and signing autographs as part of the visit.
Peter said: "What an amazing response I've had. My manager told me there weren't many people here then I walked out and there was literally hundreds. I always love coming to Stoke-on- Trent because my manager Claire and driver Carl are both from the city. It's fantastic."
Kathi Bott, from Congleton, (pictured below) was working in Conway, Wales, when she received a phone call telling her she would be meeting Peter at the event later that day after she won another competition.
She said: "I couldn't believe it. I answered the phone at about half past three to somebody telling me he was going to be in Hanley at 5pm. I was in a meeting at work but told them I had to leave straightaway.
"I went rushing around the shops to try and find something to wear because the only thing I had with me was my work suit.
"It was worth it though because he was a really lovely man. He is sexy and a great dad, and I am so happy to have met him.”
