UTTOXETER RFC chief Donald Hayes labelled his side’s win at Bishop’s Castle & Onny Vale a “miracle”.
The Town squeezed to an 11-10 win over their Shropshire hosts on Saturday with a performance replete with guts and determination.
“The victory was nothing short of a miracle given the state of disarray the matchday squad was in at the 11th hour,” said delighted director of rugby Hayes.
“The result shows the inner steel of the personnel involved.
“If we’re able to grind out a victory when so many elements were against us then it bodes well for the second half of the season.”
Hayes reckons the weekend could be a turning point for an embryonic Uttoxeter side looking to bounce back from Midlands Four West (North).
“It’s a turning point for the team as we’re developing a sense of self awareness within given situations.
“We’ve learned how to win ugly when it’s required of us. It can be a period of the season which is difficult, particularly with off-field commitments, and all those players involved stood up and were a credit to the club and themselves.
“I’d like to thank the players for their application. They read the situation and delivered exactly what was required.”
