UTTOXETER Town manager Mark Grimley believes winning the league will be a tall order after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against title rivals Wolstanton United.

The prolific Mark Grice scored almost straight from the kick-off. And in tough pitch conditions, the killer blow arrived from Chris Broad around the half-hour mark.

Town remain top of Staffordshire Senior League’s Premier Division, but Wolstanton have three games in hand – and now trail the league leaders by five points.

Ball Haye Green enjoy four games in hand on Grimley’s side and are eight points adrift.

“I can’t see them dropping many points – either of them,” said the Town boss. “If Ball Haye play like they played against us they wont drop another point.

“If Wolstanton play like they did in the second half of the game at their place, and how they played on Saturday, they wont drop another point.

“The problem with losing this type of game is that it’s now been taken out of our hands.

“I think we’ve left ourselves too much to do.”

The conditions played their part, hindering Town’s usual free-flowing game, but Grimley refused to blame the heavy pitch and swirling winds.

He said: “Credit to them (Wolstanton).

“They started really brightly and scored a goal after 30 seconds.

“That put us on the back-foot and we never really recovered.
