UTTOXETER Town are looking to stride forward on and off the pitch after ringing the changes in their boardroom and securing funding to erect a second stand at Oldfields.
Two new faces will have a seat at the table ahead of their inaugural Midland Football League season, with Graham Shenton coming in as the club’s new chairman and Steven Caswell as commercial director.
Shenton replaces Peter Douglas (pictured), who had been instrumental in getting the club to step six of the non-league pyramid, but decided to step down following the AGM earlier this month.
And he was quick to praise the work done by his predecessor.
“Peter has been associated with Uttoxeter Town in some capacity, either as a player, manager, chairman or main sponsor for decades and the ambition he has shown in helping the club to reach this level has been unbelievable,” said Shenton.
“His efforts and drive allowed us to meet deadlines regarding the ground grading and consequently achieve promotion to the Midland League, and we are fortunate that he has agreed to continue to sponsor the side moving forward.
“We look forward to welcoming him to Oldfields as a supporter for the coming season.”
Oldfields has undergone some major changes in the last 12 months to allow the football club to progress, and Shenton says the work will continue well into the summer, with a new stand, new flood lights and a new standing area on the agenda.
“As part of our long-term plan, we needed to ensure the facilities off the pitch matched the quality of the squad on it and that work has been constant,” said Shenton.
“(captain) Martin Gadsby has worked non-stop for 18 months to secure funding for these improvements and we have very recently received notification from the Football Foundation that the last chunk of funding has been secured.
“This will see the erection of a second stand, some more hard standing and six floodlights in the summer to take our ground up another level.
“This is in addition to the £80,000 of improvements that have already been made over the last 12 months.
“We want the matchday experience for fans to be as pleasurable as possible as we appreciate that without the support we get, then we wouldn’t be able to move the club forward.
“As such we will be offering season tickets at £50 for adults and £40 concessions.
“We are also looking to offer our fans the option of travelling to away games on a coach with the players and really enforcing the whole community spirit that has got us where we are today.”
On Caswell’s appointment, Shenton said: “We recognise that to be successful on the pitch we need to maximise our revenue streams off it, and Steve will be a key part of that.
“He has already secured some excellent sponsorship deals that put us on a good footing for the forthcoming season, and he will also work closely with Oldfields Sports Club, who have also been integral to our progress.”
The club are also looking for a number of jobs, some remunerated, to be filled on matchdays, such as stewards.
Shenton would like anyone interested in details to contact him directly on 07984 582252, while anyone who would like further information on the various sponsorship packages available to contact Steve on 07581 230571.
