NOT only was it raining cats and dogs outdoors, but last Wednesday evening the heavens opened indoors – to rapturous applause.

One of the world’s best-loved musicals has been brought back to life with probably one of the best visual effects seen on stage.

Singin’ in the Rain is a theatrical triumph for not only the cast, but for the production and special effects team.

Using 12,000 litres or recycled water each evening, the iconic ‘singing in the rain’ scene is breathtaking.

As the tale unfolds, it is Faye Tozer who steals the limelight as fading silent movie star Lina Lamont.

The blonde bombshell has perfect comedy timing and her shrill American accent has to be seen (and heard) to be, well, adored if I am perfectly honest.

Tozer is the complete package (triple threat springs to mind) and the rest of the cast follow suit. Matthew Malthouse is an excellent Don Lockwood, Amy Ellen Richardson, who portrays Kathy Selden, obviously relishes every moment on the stage, Stephane Anelli as comedian Cosmo Brown is hilarious and Maxwell Caulfield plays studio boss RF Simpson.

The story may be about the demise of the silent movie, but there wasn’t a fading star in sight.

Singin’ in the Rain performs at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham, until Saturday, February 15. Tickets are available by calling 0115 989 5555 or by logging on to www.trch.co.uk

The tour will also perform at Birmingham Hippodrome from March 18 until April 5 and tickets are available by calling 0844 338 5000 or by logging on to www.birminghamhippodrome.com
