Work your workwear

Written byCharlotte Wildblood

For many people, fashion is something that signifies the weekend: slipping off the boring, slightly unflattering suit and sliding into a pair of neon skinny jeans and an oversized pop-art iconic sweater.  But, as the fashion gods have further pledged a love of everything black, monochrome is making a bold appearance and many of the items that can be found on the high street or online are items that will transform your boardroom into a catwalk and  result in colleagues wanting to raid your wardrobe!

ASOS have delivered up some fantastic pieces which will complement the basics that will already be present in your wardrobe. These two skirts cater for the more formal meeting and the relaxed discussion with a client over a coffee: the beauty of these pieces is their ability to be a base for a splash of colour (think: a bright blouse or a block coloured scarf) as well as being the perfect accoutrement for a sleek monochromatic look with a white, high-necked top (such as this elegant piece from Wallis).

To complement a natural make-up palette and a loose bun, Topshop have given us a beautiful off-white blouse with black ribbon detailing around the collar and the sleeves.  The beauty of this shirt is its versatility and will definitely be a firm favourite for the ‘work-day to weekend’ transferability of this piece.  Slide it under a leather mini-dress or tuck it into December’s must-have leather skater skirt to perfect rockabilly-chic weekend wear.

The catwalks have been teeming with animal prints this season, as well as in the glimpses of pre-Fall 2013 that we have been blessed with.  This zebra print pencil skirt is the perfect example of how to find transitional pieces which both add a certain pizzaz to your outfit as well as being a piece that will last for many seasons to come (and at £40, it’s a steal!).

Finally, on the jacket front - there is a wide variety to tantalise your fashion tastebuds.  The high street has offered up a more conservative and staple piece in Wallis, with the polkadot sleeves and the white piping preventing this piece from seeming just like every other suit jacket you own.  Alternatively, if you’re feeling more adventurous, the Hobbs polkadot monochrome jacket is a sure-fire winner which will make you stand out from the crowd, spicing up any outfit!
