Christmas is coming

Written byCharlotte Wildblood

As the nights draw in and the weather gets colder, it’s a sure sign that Christmas is coming.  Although it may seem a little early to be compiling the ever-extensive gift list, the shops are stocking some perfect items which will soon be flying off the shelves - now is the time to get buying so you don’t miss that perfect present for a loved one (or an early one for yourself, I won’t tell anyone!)

For her

hobbs coat

This gorgeous tweed coat from Hobbs’ NW3 range will ensure that she’s never going to be cold. The oversized, cocoon style featured heavily on the catwalk and will be perfect for teaming with knee high boots, leggings and lots of layers on top. The woollen blend ensures that this piece will survive for seasons to come and always look smart and sophisticated.

Everyone needs a jumper like this for Christmas Day. This Topshop knit will take you from a bracing winter’s walk to looking gorgeous over the roast turkey and Christmas pudding. The elegant, yet simplistic collar stands out and will definitely draw some admiring glances. The detailing may even save your bank balance because you won’t have to buy her a necklace to go with the outfit!

These shoes are amazing and, in my opinion, every girl should own a pair! They scream elegance whilst maintaining a certain edgy-cool that will ensure she looks the belle of the ball! The choice of pairing these with an elegant jumpsuit or with skinnies and an oversized jumper practically makes them a staple. Snap these beauties up in Topshop before everyone else finds them!

Oliver Bonas is the king of comfort. These cashmere slippers are perfect for curling up with a cup of hot chocolate in front of a blazing fire whilst watching the classic Christmas films. The cute stripy detailing will ensure that these are the chic-est pair of slippers she’s ever owned.

This is the perfect gift for anyone who always has a perfectly coiffured hairstyle. These sumptuously cosy earmuffs from UGG will keep her ears toasty whilst making a definite fashion statement and removing any risk of hat hair. The real shearling used for these earmuffs stands head and shoulders above the other high-street versions and will last for several winters to come.

For him

If he’s a sophisticated traveller, this may be the perfect gift to ensure he travels in style and comfort. The wide shoulder strap has a soft leather sheath to prevent it from digging in as he browses duty-free. The buttery leather that the designers at Ralph Lauren have chosen screams style and sophistication. This Fat Face jumper is a perfect cosy winter knit (so perfect you may even want to steal it for yourself!). The red and white pattern will ring strongly with Christmas cheer but not end up in the pile of Rudolph-adorned tops which are thrown out once the holiday lull kicks in. He can pair this with jeans and suede loafers for a smart-casual look perfect for Christmas dinner with the family.

These boots are the grown-up version of the biker boots that have resurfaced across the high street. Plush leather, well heeled and subtle stitching detail mean these shoes will work in that important business meeting as well as at the weekend. Debenhams are selling out of these quickly so grab them whilst they’re still in stock!

Robbie Williams, Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling have all recently been papped wearing onesies so what’s the harm in him having one too? Topman have brought out this comfy one just in time for Christmas; its subtly means that, like Brad, he’ll be able to get away with wearing it for a quick trip to the supermarket. If you’d be mortified seeing him out in his PJs, go for a brighter coloured one in the hope that he won’t want to wear it out for fear of drawing too much attention to himself!
