A FAMILY near Uttoxeter had stars in their eyes when a world famous actor came to tea.

Hugh Grant, star of blockbusters including Bridget Jones’ Diary and Four Weddings and a Funeral, called in at Grindley House Farm, Stowe by Chartley, on Friday.

He fulfilled his ambition to drive a fire engine and operate the hose, as well as getting to grips with a motorcycle, enjoying a kick about in the garden and tucking into an afternoon tea prepared by Grindley House Farm resident Dawn Hughes.

Her husband Steven said: “You couldn’t have wished for a nicer celebrity.

"He wasn’t in any rush, he just enjoyed his day.

Hugh Grant’s main reason for visiting Staffordshire on Friday was to unveil Burntwood Community First Responders’ new vehicle.

He first met the team’s chairman, Paul Dadge, when the pair gave evidence at the Leveson Inquiry into press intrusion.

Paul hit the headlines in 2005 as one of the good Samaritans who gave aid to victims of the London tube bombings.
