A MAJOR music festival in Uttoxeter has launched this year’s event with a promise to bring the town centre to the heart of proceedings.
The Acoustic Festival of Britain 2013 will see the likes of sixties legends The Hollies, Scottish band The Proclaimers and Pop Idol star Gareth Gates take over Uttoxeter Racecourse over three days this Spring.
Organisers held a special launch for the 2013 event at Uttoxeter Town Hall on Friday to show townsfolk what will be going on, on their doorstep as part of this year’s festival.
For the first time ever the market square will be closed to traffic as it plays host to its own stage as part of the festival on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1 for music and dance groups to come up from the racecourse into the heart of the town.
Organiser Mike Stephens told the Advertiser: “Just by having the stage in the middle of the town it will a great way of getting the whole of Uttoxeter into the mood.
“The roads will be closed off which will help give that continental feel of people being able to sit out and have a coffee while watching the music and entertainment, and with the market going on as usual as well.
“The town council have been great and open to it all which has made it easy.”
Meanwhile down at the racecourse over the festival’s three days from Friday, May 31 to Sunday, June 2, there will be a host of top music and dance acts, as well as guitar workshops, a comedy tent, burlesque and much more.
However, what is a major selling point for the festival is just how family friendly the event is.
Uttoxeter Racecourse executive director David MacDonald said: “I would urge people who live in Uttoxeter to come down and bring their kids as it really is the most family friendly event.
“I have complete confidence in bringing my eight-year-old to it as there is just such a wonderful chilled out atmosphere.
“We are really excited about this year’s event. It is always a thrill to bring major artists to Uttoxeter and to see bands of the stature of The Hollies and The Proclaimers here is terrific.
“I just hope that the people of Uttoxeter get behind it.”
Other acts confirmed for the 2013 festival include The Christians, Baka Beyond, The Quireboys, The Wonderstuff and T Rextasy.
