A FAMILY open day at a village recreation ground has been a success, with dozens signing up to volunteer and help secure its future.
The Open Day event at Wentlows Recreation Ground in Tean was organised by Checkley Parish Council’s former chairman councillor Keith Flunder.
Families were invited to spend the afternoon at the newly renovated facility and pitches and take part in a cricket match, five-a-side football matches, and a kick-about with members of Tean Albion football club.
Mr Flunder said: “There were about 100 people there on the day and 25 families put their names down to be involved in the future development of the leisure facilities, along with a number who expressed their wish to become volunteers.
“Thanks also to Charlie Humphries who helped put out flags advertising the event for us, along with several parish councillors who helped on the day Linda Trigger, Steve Buckley and county councillor Mark Deaville.
“We are hoping this will lead to a group of people who can look after the facility for the community.”
