SOMETHING fishy has been going on of late at Uttoxeter Racecourse.

The Wood Lane venue opened its doors to the East Midlands Koi Club’s annual winter show which attracted record numbers for its 2013 event.

The weekend show featured over 40 vats of the best UK Koi, as well as dealer and craft stands and much more for enthusiasts to enjoy.

It was the second year the show has been held at the racecourse after being forced to move from Bretby Hotel and Conference Centre in South Derbyshire when it closed down.

Donna Jones, owner of Richdon Koi who are part of the East Midlands Koi Club, told the Advertiser it had been an ‘extremely successful’ event.

She said: “It went very, very well. The Saturday was a bit quieter than normal but that may have been because of football and rugby etc.

“However, the Sunday was just mad. In total we had about 1,000 people through the door when we would normally have about 700 or so, so it was a really good show.

“It is the second time we’ve done it at Uttoxeter and we have a three-year deal with them so will be back again next year.

“We used to have it in Bretby but when that closed, Uttoxeter Racecourse came forward and said we could have it there and it has worked out really well.”
