PEOPLE are being offered some 'top tips' on how to keep their bin clean – after the hot weather led to complaints about the bins starting to smell and insect levels start to rise.

East Staffordshire Borough Council has issued the advice to people across the area in a bid to ensure that bins do not become 'smelly or unpleasant' as a result of the warmer weather this summer.

The council is also making an effort to educate people across the borough to make sure smelly rubbish does not lead to an infestation of maggots.

Council chiefs are urging people to prevent the arrival of maggots and insects by ensuring that wheelie bins are cleaned out on a regular basis.

Advice is available by either visiting www.eaststaffbc.gov.uk or by calling 0800 269098.
