UTTOXETER cyclists who completed an epic 200 mile bike ride only last month are already planning their next adventure.

The 12 men, including Uttoxeter Heath borough and town councillor Andrew Riley, are planning to cycle 300 miles from Edinburgh to Uttoxeter in September next year and are looking for town charities to raise money for.

Last month, they raised £5,300 for the Inside Outers Youth Group, which provides access to activities to vulnerable children who otherwise may not get the opportunity, and returned to a hero’s welcome which included a flypast from a Lancaster Bomber.

Councillor Riley said: “We wanted to do it again as it really did bring the community together and that increased the fund-raising.

“We are currently looking for a local charity to raise money for as this year we raised around £5,300 for the Inside Outers and we want to raise more or a similar amount for another charity in Uttoxeter.

“The last one was a great success and raised a lot of money for a little charity in Uttoxeter.

“The lads were so excited when it finished that they are ready to go on next year’s one.” Speaking of the next challenge Councillor Riley said it is going to be bigger and better than the last one.

He said: “Because it went so well we have increased it to 300 miles and added an extra day to take it from four days to five.

“The 12 riders may increase to 15 as we have had more interest and more riders means more sponsorship.

“We have been in touch with the RAF for the flypast and asked for the Red Arrows or Battle of Britain flight.

“We want the heroes’ welcome again as it makes a difference to the lads and it was a real event that brings the community together.

“We are hoping more sponsors will come forward as they did last year, we know times are hard but the money is going back into Uttoxeter.”

Councillor Riley also thanked the Advertiser for its help in making residents aware of what they were doing in the last ride.

People wanting to nominate a charity are asked to visit www.thetalbotcharitybikeclub.org.uk, the Facebook page at Talbot Bike Club or Twitter #talbotlads.
