EIGHT police cars were called into action on Tuesday night to deal with two men suspected of dealing cannabis.

A yellow Peugeot 306 was pulled over at around 8.20pm in Derby Road, Uttoxeter.

Officers had to call for backup to deal with the suspects and eight cars with their sirens and flashing blue lights raced to the scene.

Derby Road traffic was disrupted while police dealt with the suspects, who were taken into custody 'in Derbyshire' overnight.

The attending officers found 'a quantity of a substance they believed to be cannabis in the vehicle's occupants' possession.

Tests will be carried out on the substance to verify what it is.

The amount was enough to suggest they were planning on dealing the Class B drug to users in the Uttoxeter area.

But police remained tight-lipped on the exact weight of the substance they found.

The driver and his passenger were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.

Both were released after interview on Wednesday morning pending possible charges.

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said: "One of our officers stopped a yellow Peugeot 306 in Derby Road in Uttoxeter.

"The officer suspected the driver may have been in possession of illegal drugs.

"As he was on his own he called for assistance from Staffordshire Police, who sent cars to assist him in his duties.

"A 21-year-old man from Hollington and a 19-year-old man from Branston wer e both arrested on suspicion of possession of an illicit substance with intent to supply. ey were questioned that evening and were released on bail the following morning.

"A quantity of what we believe to be cannabis was recovered from the suspects' possession."

The maximum UK sentence for supplying cannabis is 14 years.

Those found in possession of the drug for the first time are given a warning.

The next time they are caught they receive a final warning and, if there is a third time, they are arrested.

This story is almost funny if it wasn't true, 8 police cars , scientific tests , roads blocked , and the inevitable court time , over cannabis !!!!! So while the tax payer foots the bill for all this remind me what the grate crime was here ? A plant that has never killed anyone and has now overwhelming medical evedience that it can treat many conditions , can alcohol make the same claim ? 6500 alcohol related deaths 2012
