ADAM Peaty smashed the Commonwealth Games 100m breaststroke record twice in a day and set a new British record to maintain his strong challenge for a gold medal in Glasgow after qualifying fastest from tonight's semi-final.

In the heats at the Tollcross pool, Peaty was also fastest, touching home in 59.47 seconds.

The City of Derby star, who finished fourth in the final of the 200m breaststroke yesterday, was the only swimmer to go under the minute barrier.

His time was just outside the British record for the event that he set at the recent Mare Nostrum series in Barcelona, but he beat that by nine-hundreths of a second in the semi-final with 59.16.

Afterwards, Peaty told BBC Sport: "I think there is more to come from me.

"I'm still getting used to the arena.

"I'm training hard at the moment and enjoying it."
