CHILDREN at a nursery near Uttoxeter have ventured into the great outdoors as they embarked on the first of a new series of forest school sessions.
Smallwood Manor Nursery, in Marchington, saw its staff using the Forest Schools Initiative to further enhance outdoor play and children’s learning journeys.
While outdoors, children foraged for suitable materials to create a woodland crown while learning about staying out of harm’s way while outdoors and specific learning boundaries to ensure they explored within a safe setting.
Nursery head Helen Griffiths said: “We’ve been eagerly anticipating the start of our new forest school learning sessions here at Smallwood, the development of which has been in the pipeline for some time.
“By working closely with the initiative we’ve structured the sessions to ensure that each week our nursery children can explore, investigate and discover the natural environment.”
