A SENSATIONAL young blues performer is the latest to be added to the line-up for a major music festival in Uttoxeter.
The Acoustic Festival of Britain 2013 has announced Blues Boy Dan will be taking to the stage on Saturday, June 1 at Uttoxeter Racecourse.
The 20-year-old is continuing to see his career go from strength to strength after Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood saw him on YouTube, booked him to fly to USA and he has become the most sought after bluesman on both sides of the Atlantic.
A meteoric rise to international stardom for Dan Owen was seen live on the Andrew Marr show, on his return from America, where he was special guest of Willie Nelson.
He has played and recorded with Bruce Springstien and Sheryl Crow in Nashville in recent weeks.
Blues Boy Dan now finds himself touring with ZZ TOP on their European tour as well as Fleetwood Mac, a Glastonbury booking as well as many of Europe’s leading festivals. Mike Stephens, the Acoustic Festival organiser, said he is a keen blues promoter and has been fortunate to add Owen to the bill.
He said: “Such a gritty seasoned voice and sublime guitar work for one so young.
“This man is going to be out of our price range very quickly. Saturday customers will see him during the afternoon I think he is very, very special and this past few weeks have been a whirlwind for him.”
Owen is a young singer-songwriter from Shrewsbury who performs ‘rootsy’ blues infected songs on guitar with the help of his home made ‘stomp box’ and occasional harmonica.
A YouTube video performance of the Blues Boy singing Bob Dylans’ Ballad of Hollis Brown attracted the attention of Mick Fleetwood who has taken him under his wing as a ‘mentor’ for this young artist.
2013 will see Owen recording in Nashville with grammy winning producer Vance Powel.
Also taking to the road with ZZ-Top and Fleetwood Mac as an opening act for their European dates as he prepares to release his first recordings on BluesBoy Recs.
The three day Acoustic Festival of Britain will be held at the Wood Lane racecourse from Friday, May 31 to Sunday, June 2.
The likes of sixties legends The Hollies, Scottish band The Proclaimers and Pop Idol star Gareth Gates have already been confirmed for the popular festival which sees thousands of people descend on the town.
Other pop acts confirmed to perform include The Christians, Baka Beyond, The Quireboys, The Wonderstuff and T Rextasy.
For the first time ever, the town’s market square will be closed to traffic as it plays host to its own stage for music and dance groups to come up from racecourse into the heart of the town.
