A CHARITABLE man has raised thousands of pounds for the air ambulance instead of accepting birthday presents at his 60th birthday bash.

Selfless Graham Wheeldon of the Mount Farm in Hollington chose to raise money for the County Air Ambulance by asking friends and family to make donations at his party.

Proud wife Suzie Wheeldon said: "I had the idea. When you turn 60 you don't really need a great deal for yourself so we decided to ask our guests to donate money instead of buying gifts."It costs in the region of £2,000 every time the air ambulance attends an accident.

"We raised £2,326 which will go towards possibly saving someone's life."
