A PENSIONER who had her bag snatched in a Uttoxeter supermarket is appealing for anyone who has any information to come forward to recover her ‘irreplaceable’ personal items.
The grey handbag which was unbranded and had three zip up compartments was taken from the trolley of Marion Shaw in Tesco on Friday at 2.20pm.
Mrs Shaw is now appealing for anyone who may know its whereabouts to come forward for a reward as a number of personal items were inside the bag.
She is also warning Uttoxeter people to keep watch over their possessions while in crowded stores, as thefts happen when you least expect it.
Mrs Shaw said: “I put my handbag in the front of the trolley as I’ve had a bad neck recently and didn’t want to carry more than necessary.
“I wouldn’t normally do that but was with my husband and asked him to keep an eye on it.
“It was a busy shop so obviously the thief saw their chance and pinched it.
“I looked away for a few seconds and it was gone.
“It’s sad that people steal from hard working people who don’t have much money.
“I’m retired and can’t afford to have things like this happen, it’s disgusting to steal off people who have worked hard all their lives.
“I want to warn other people to be on their guard.
“It’s awful, I’ve travelled all over the world and had no problems but it happens in your own back yard.
“It’s not so much the money, it’s the personal items, items which are irreplaceable.
“There was an address book of my friends in Australia and New Zealand, two key rings that we bought on our travels and items which had personal value.
“We are putting the appeal out with a reward because it’s possible that the thief just took it and discarded it somewhere after taking the money and cards.
“We’ve had a good look round but haven’t found anything yet.
“The key rings were ones I bought when I was backpacking round Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam and Cambodia so they’re not easily replaceable.
“We’ve put a few posters up with the pictures of the hedgehog and kangaroo.
“It’s a grey colour with three compartments, nothing fancy but it served me well.
“Inside was my Samsung Galaxy Ace, all my credit cards which have all been cancelled now, and a fake Burberry purse. If anyone knows anything please get in touch on 07968 583323.”
A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “If anyone has any information please get in touch on 101, quoting incident number 407 of May 30.”
