UTTOXETER’S Commonwealth Games-bound swimmer Adam Peaty will next weekend fly out to Spain as he begins his countdown to the big event in Glasgow.
Peaty will be part of a strong Great Britain squad that will contest the Barcelona Mare Nostrum from June 14 to 15.
More than 40 British athletes will compete against top international swimmers as they prepare for the games in Glasgow.
Peaty was chosen for the England team after his performances at the British Gas Championships, where he starred, claiming a gold and two silver medals.
British Swimming head coach Bill Furniss said: “The calibre of the competition at Barcelona is expected to be high, so this will be a good opportunity for our athletes to push themselves ahead of the summer competitions.”
The Mare Nostrum swimming circuit is made up of three meetings staged around the Mediterranean.
Many of the athletes will also compete in earlier stages of the series in Monaco (June 7-8) and Canet, France (June 11-12).
Meanwhile, City of Derby head coach Mel Marshall, who trains Peaty and Lowe, has been selected to go with the England team to Glasgow.
