ADAM Peaty has been backed for Olympic Glory in two years by the face of British swimming, Rebecca Adlington.

The Uttoxeter rising star picked up another two gold medals – adding to his two golds and a silver from the Commonwealth Games – at the European Aquatics Championships in Berlin this week.

He swam to individual victory in the 100m breaststroke – the 19-year-old’s dominant discipline – before putting in a strong leg of the 4x100m mixed medley to claim a fourth gold medal in less than a month.

And two-time Olympic gold medallist Adlington is sure Peaty can swim to success in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

“He has beaten records, has lots of room to improve and I 100 per cent see him on the podium,” she said.

“If everything goes to plan I don’t see why not.”

Peaty has been mentored by Adlington, who broke into tears when the teenager struck Glasgow gold.

“He’s got the perfect build and he’s got the mental strength and he works hard,” she said.

“At the qualifiers earlier in the year he swam a really good time and looked fantastic, but he was still disappointed because he’s so hungry for success.

“In the heats and the semi-final, Adam wasn’t relaxing, he didn’t think ‘I’m going to back off’. He went out there and he put on a show.”
