A FORMER Abbotsholme pupil is heading back to his old school to give pupils and parents a talk on his best-selling book.

Simon Pearson (inset), who is the obituaries and letters editor the the Times, will address an Abbotsholme audience about his book, The Great Escaper: the Life and Death of Roger Bushell, on Thursday, February 27.

The book follows the life of ‘Big X’, the officer in charge of the escape from Stalag Luft III in 1994, who was immortalised on film by Richard Attenborough in The Great Escape.

Mr Pearson has been speaking at major literary festivals, on Radio 4’s Today programme and on the Richard Bacon show on Radio 5.

Having also spoken on radio in Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, Mr Pearson will visit Abbotsholme as part of a series of lectures to celebrate the school’s 125-year anniversary.

All are welcome and anyone who wishes to attend can book tickets, costing £10, by calling Hannah Akers on 01889 594289 or email her at Hannah.akers@abbotsholme.co.uk.

March will see the 70th anniversary of the ‘Great Escape’.
